To kiss you was my deepest wish
beside your bed to bid farewell –
but you had grown your angel wings
before the dawn of morning fell.
Deep in the night your soul awoke and left your earthen body here –
peace then upon my heart did come remove my every sorrowed tear.
The journey long was traveled on that strange and silent ride –
of nothing else I could not want ’til I was by your side.
I came upon your tiny form
so soft, and pure, and white-
to gaze upon your face once more –
a most serene and holy sight.
All worldly cares had gone away – no fear, no pain, no aching heart –
your spirit freed to dwell at home, no hesitation to depart.
All with my heart I thanked you
for the sister you had been –
for loving me, protecting me, defending me, my friend.
You often wondered what it was that you could give the world –
an honest, open, loving heart was your treasure, more than gold.
Oh angel of an unknown world, give me peace, let me cry –
for you are worthy of my tears, and all is gone, by and by.
In loving memory of Colleen
